Negative* Several Carbon County histories and indexes were searched (by Lineages in report of 27 Jul 1996) for the ancestral family with negative results. Marriages weren't recorded until 1885. No births registered for Paul's children, nor deaths for members of the ancestral family. Naturalizations for Carbon County not available at SLC, though records from Eastern District of PA may have included that area. Indexes to 3 different courts failed to turn up any Steidle records. Germans to America from 1850 through 1855 was negative, and in case of misspelling, indexes to original lists in Philadelphia & Baltimore was search, also negative. Indexes to persons who left Wurttemberg were also searched without success. Several Mauch Chunk churches also yielded negative results.

CAUTION* Mauch Chunk (Jim Thorpe), Carbon Co., Pennsylvania, There must be another Jonas in later years because of the newspaper reference below. "Our" Jonas died before cars would have been around.
     In the Mauch Chunk Daily Times dated 11 Jan 1917, there is an article headlined "Mr Wildoner on By-Gone Days." About 2/3 the way down article, it says "Next came the car repair shop, the principal workmen being ... and Jonas Steidle ... They built their own cars, forged all the car axles and made all their brake (wooden) shoes."
