Married NameOtis
Birth*17 January 1719Scituate, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts1
Marriage*Deacon Joseph Otis; Scituate, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts, Place conflict between New London CT (Barbour) and Scituate MA (VR):

The Barbour collection of Connecticut town vital records 974.6 V2wL v. 29 pg 321 provided the lead to (New London) Births, marriages, deaths v. 1-3A (p.1-244) 1644-1842 film 1312157 item 4 is where you find v.2 pg.118 (copied & filed) "Joseph Otis Jun of New London son of Joseph Otis[,] and Elizabeth Little daughter of David Little of Scituate were joined in marriage covenant June 6, 1738 Sheazyschub(sp?) Bourne Clerk." It goes on to list their children, so this is one of those town records where they had you come in and give all the information; it wasn't recorded contemporaneously.

Vital records of Scituate, Massachusetts, to the year 1850 974.482/S1 V28v v. 2
Joseph [int. Jr. of New London] and Eliza[beth] Little, June 6 [17[worn]] [int. 1737]. [Joseph of N. London, June 6, 1738, C.R.1.]
C.R.1. — church record, First Parish, and records from Rev. John Lothrop's original manuscript

In The Mayflower Descendant, v.1 (1899), pg 42+, there is a list of vital records found in the town records for Scituate MA and this list shows that in v.4 part 1, pg 3 there is a listing for Joseph Otis and Eliz. Little for 6 Jun 1738. That means the town records for both Scituate and New London have this marriage. The implication from the style of the extract for New London implies that a lot of family information was done at one time, whereas the listing for the information in Scituate implies that the information was recorded closer to the time. Original records should be looked at to confirm all this, but it is more likely that they were married in Scituate before moving to New London.1
