Story*[John Note] In the T.A.G. article on Brewster cited above, there is quite a bit
of documentation of land records for John Thompson. Then Jacobus goes on to
say: The above records prove conclusively that John Tompson of Brookhaven had
lived in Stamford CT, from how early a date we don't know, where in 1667 he was
the owner of a house and shop, which he sold in 1670; that late in 1668 he had
been accepted at the town smith in Oyster Bay, where he lived from 1668 to
1672; that he removed to Brookhaven and in 1673 disposed of his Oyster Bay
property.
There is an Anthony Tomson, a tailor, with his wife Abigail, in the area
at this time as well, and it is speculated that he might be a son. Jacobus points
out the pros and cons, and says he may be a nephew, but concludes: A connection
seems likely, but it cannot be stated positively on the basis of the evidence
at hand that Anthony was John's son. As a result, Anthony is not included here
as a son.
There are a lot of erroneus, possibly fabricated, Brewster-Thompson "facts" that
have been shown wrong by Jacobus. His article should be studied in depth by any
researcher on this line.
